School is a preparation for life and therefore we expect that the students shall take pride in themselves and their personal appearance. As a general principle, students should start the day as they mean to go on. Similarly, we expect a high standard of personal appearance from all the students. By requiring students to wear the NLGS School uniform, we intend that students shall develop their sense of loyalty, and to encourage them to take a pride in their appearance. Because if students look outstanding they will feel outstanding.
We do not permit extreme hair styles or colours, designer shirts, and decorated footwear as an individual fashion statement. The girls must have black laces and no coloured stitching. No decorative attachments are to be worn in the hair. Hair bands must be plain black or dark colour with a maximum of 50mm width. Tram lines or other shaved shapes in the hair and ‘bar codes’ in eyebrows are not permitted. Make- up and nail varnish or nail extensions must not be worn at any time.
We do not permit tinted or cosmetic contact lenses and decorative dental wear. We do not allow bandannas, hoods, caps or hats in the building.
Boys should shave, as frequently as required. If students are not in full uniform they will not be able to attend lessons. Similarly, they will work in isolation until they bring the correct uniform or we will send the students home to change. The students should clearly mark or label all items of uniform and bags.
Acceptable school shoes at NLGS are plain black formal leather flat shoes. Thus, we do not permit to wear ballet pump-style shoes, suede shoes, daps, and canvass shoes.
No jewelry except for one wristwatch and a maximum of one plain (no stones) stud earring in each ear. We do not permit nose studs and other forms of body piercing. Therefore, students shall not wear accessories around the neck or attach to clothing.
Neat and Proper Dressing
All students should be properly and neatly dressed. The girls should always tuck in their shirts and blouses properly. The boys should do up their top shirt buttons smartly. All clothes and bags must be clearly named. Students should wear school uniform on trips and to all formal occasions, including lunch.
PE kit may be worn to practical PE lessons and must be worn in full [full tracksuit top and bottoms]. As for the hair, it must be smart and natural colour. For girls long hair must be tied up in a bun, single pony tail or plat at the back of the head. For boys it should be above the collar and no shorter than a grade three.
