On Wednesday 1st July, North London Grammar School (NLGS) welcomed debut author Steve Blackman as part of his Zero Override book tour.

Students in Year 7 and Year 8 enjoyed an inspiring session with the author. Steve introduced his debut novel, Zero Override, and explained how he developed the story. He also spoke about artificial intelligence (AI), technology, robots, and the creative writing process.

Discovering the World of Zero Override

First, Steve shared the ideas behind Zero Override. He explained how modern technology continues to shape our daily lives. He also showed how these ideas inspired the story and its characters.

Next, students learned how a simple idea can become a published novel. They discovered the importance of planning, editing, and perseverance. As a result, they gained a better understanding of the writing journey and the skills needed to become an author.

An Interactive Q&A Session

One of the highlights of the visit was the interactive question-and-answer session.

Students asked thoughtful questions about writing, publishing, AI, and Steve’s inspiration for the book. In return, Steve shared valuable advice and interesting stories from his own experience.

The discussion encouraged students to think creatively and ask meaningful questions. It also helped them explore the connection between literature, technology, and innovation.

Inspiring Future Readers and Writers

At North London Grammar School, we believe that author visits bring books to life. They encourage students to read more, think creatively, and develop confidence in their own writing.

In addition, meeting an author gives students a unique opportunity to learn about the publishing process. They also discover how imagination, curiosity, and determination can turn an idea into a finished book.

Finally, we would like to thank Steve Blackman and Scholastic for including North London Grammar School in the Zero Override book tour. The visit inspired our students and gave them a memorable learning experience. We look forward to reading Zero Override and following Steve’s future books.
