British Science Week got off to an unforgettable start at North London Grammar School (NLGS) as students welcomed Matt Green, better known as The Rapping Scientist, for an exciting day of learning, creativity, and inspiration.

On Monday 9th March, students from Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 took part in a series of interactive workshops that combined science, music, and education in a unique and memorable way. Matt Green’s visit encouraged students to see science from a fresh perspective while demonstrating how creativity can make learning both engaging and effective.

Bringing Science to Life Through Music

Known internationally for his educational science raps, Matt Green captivated students with energetic performances that transformed complex scientific concepts into memorable lyrics. His lively presentation showed how rhythm, rhyme, and music can be powerful tools for learning and revision.

Students also enjoyed an interactive “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?”-style science quiz, testing their knowledge in a fun and competitive atmosphere that kept both students and staff fully engaged.

From Classroom Teacher to Award-Winning Science Communicator

During the workshops, Matt shared his inspiring career journey from classroom science teacher to successful author, performer, and social media educator. His story highlighted the importance of creativity, perseverance, and finding new ways to inspire the next generation of learners.

Students discovered how combining education with creativity can make even the most challenging topics more accessible and enjoyable.

Rap, Revise, Remember

One of the highlights of the day was Matt Green’s popular “Rap, Revise, Remember” workshop. Students explored practical revision techniques by turning key scientific ideas into memorable raps, helping reinforce understanding through rhythm and repetition.

The session demonstrated that effective revision does not have to be repetitive or dull. Instead, students learned strategies they can continue to use throughout their studies to improve memory, recall, and confidence.

A Memorable End to British Science Week’s Opening Event

Following the workshops, students had the opportunity to meet Matt Green, ask questions, and have books and learning materials signed. It was a fantastic way to celebrate the start of British Science Week and inspire students to approach science with curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm.

At North London Grammar School, we are committed to providing enriching experiences that extend learning beyond the classroom. Matt Green’s visit perfectly reflected our belief that education should be engaging, innovative, and inspiring.

We would like to thank Matt Green, The Rapping Scientist, for an unforgettable visit and for encouraging our students to discover exciting new ways to learn and remember science.
