The International Greenwich Olympiad (IGO) 2026 took place from 21–27 June 2026. The event brought together 362 finalists from 53 countries. In total, 1,103 students registered from around the world.
Hosted by North London Grammar School (NLGS), IGO 2026 celebrated innovation, creativity, and collaboration. Students also presented projects inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Throughout the week, they shared ideas, built friendships, and developed skills for the future.
Welcoming Young Innovators
The week began with a warm welcome for students, teachers, and supervisors from around the world. Participants staying at Queen Mary University of London settled into their accommodation before the competition began.
Soon after arriving, students met fellow participants from 53 countries. As a result, the campus quickly became a place filled with excitement, learning, and international friendship.

Opening Ceremony in Oxford
Next, participants travelled to the historic city of Oxford for the Opening Ceremony.
Guests were welcomed by Mrs Erdil, Senior Deputy Head, and Councillor Chewe Munkonge, the Lord Mayor of Oxford. In addition, participants received a special video message from Mr Philippe J. Warren, a member of the Olympiad’s Advisory Board.
The ceremony ended with a parade of all 53 national flags. This powerful moment celebrated unity, diversity, and global friendship. Afterwards, students from North London Grammar School Junior School performed highlights from GRIMM: Once Upon a Musical.

Exhibition Day
One of the biggest highlights of the week was Exhibition Day.
Students proudly presented their projects to an international panel of judges. Altogether, 538 projects were evaluated by 114 judges.
The projects explored important local and global challenges. Many focused on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Students competed across both scientific and creative categories. New categories such as STEM Storytelling, Public Speaking, and Drama also encouraged creativity alongside academic excellence.
Celebrating Culture and Friendship
Meanwhile, IGO 2026 Cultural Night celebrated the rich diversity of the participants. The evening also reflected the NLGS Bonitas Pillar.
Students wore traditional clothing, performed music and dance, and shared their cultures with others. As a result, the event created an atmosphere of respect, inclusion, and friendship. It also gave everyone memories that will last a lifetime.

Discovering London
Throughout the week, participants visited some of London’s most famous landmarks and historic attractions.
These trips helped students learn more about British history and culture. At the same time, they strengthened friendships with students from across the world.
Award Ceremony at King’s College London
Finally, the week ended with the Award Ceremony at King’s College London.
Students gathered to celebrate their achievements after an inspiring week. Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Honourable Mention awards recognised outstanding projects across every competition category.
The ceremony was a proud celebration of innovation, teamwork, and academic excellence. It also recognised the dedication and creativity shown by every participant.

Looking Ahead
Once again, the International Greenwich Olympiad 2026 showed how education can bring young people together from around the world.
Throughout the week, students shared ideas, solved real-world problems, and built lasting friendships. Most importantly, they returned home with new experiences, greater confidence, and unforgettable memories.
