NLGS is proud to announce that its students have achieved outstanding results in this year’s Senior UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) 2024 Competition! This national competition, aimed at students aged 16-19 (primarily in Years 12 and 13), showcases mathematical talent from across the UK. The competition format presents 25 challenging questions to be solved within 90 minutes, specifically designed for students in Year 13 and below.
This year, NLGS participated with sixteen Year 11 students and four Year 10 students. Taking on the Senior UKMT was a true challenge for those who had just started Year 11 or Year 10. Notably, one Year 11 student and one Year 10 student received silver medals, while two Year 10 students and eleven Year 11 students earned bronze medals.
We encourage all our students to participate in UKMT competitions starting from Junior School. Beginning with the First Maths Challenge for Year 3 and 4 students, we progress to the Primary Maths Challenge for Years 5 and 6. In Years 7 and 8, students take part in the Junior UKMT, followed by the Intermediate UKMT in Years 9, 10, and 11. We also offer the Senior UKMT for our high-achieving Year 10 and 11 students, as well as the Team UKMT for our exceptional Year 8 and 9 students. It has become the norm at NLGS for students to seize every opportunity to challenge themselves.
It is truly admirable to see our students flourishing and realising their potential. We are immensely proud of our amazing students, who truly reflect our teachers’ dedication and hard work.”
Mr. Zerenturk, Math Teacher.
