General Information



At Key Stage 3 (KS3), the first three secondary school years, the subjects offered are:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Humanities: Geography, History, Citizenship and Religious Education
  • Spanish
  • Art
  • Computer Science
  • Performing Arts: Drama and Music
  • Sport & Physical Education
  • Personal, Social & Health Education (PSHE)

All students attend form time activities including Literacy, Numeracy, PSHE, SMSC (Social Moral Spiritual and Cultural) in tutor groups at the start of the day.

Students are organised into both set teaching groups and tutor groups. Biology, chemistry and physics are taught separately. GCSE Science and Maths preparation start from Year 9.



In Years 10 and 11, Key Stage 4 (KS4), students are on a personalised pathways programme suitable for their ambitions and aptitude.

They all study GCSE examination courses including English Language, Maths, Additional Science. Preference subjects, dependent on their particular pathway, include Art, Computer Science, Business Studies, Triple Science, Spanish, History, Geography, Media Studies, Sociology, Information and Communication Technology and English Literature.  PSHE is taught as a non-assessed subject in Year 10 and 11 as part of compulsory curriculum at North London Grammar School.

Opportunities exist for higher attaining students to study A-level courses.



North London Grammar School has recently started delivering A-Levels from September 2016.

In Years 12 and 13, students are on a personalised pathways programme suitable for their ambitions and aptitude. Students can choose a maximum of four A-Levels depending on their GCSE results. A-Level subjects include English Literature, Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Chemistry.  We will be expanding the number of subjects as students opt for a wider range in the future.
